MY HIT LIST-THE WORMS OF THE EARTH

Appearing in Savage Sword of Conan #16 & #17 in 1976, Marvel's seventies black and white publication, Robert E Howard's Worms of the Earth was interpreted by Roy Thomas with art by Barry Smith and Tim Conrad. It did not feature Howard's most famous creation Conan it's star was Bran Mak Morn. Set during the Roman Occupation of Britain it is a dark brooding tale of sorcery, violence and revenge against the Roman invaders. Its far less an action adventure like a Conan story more a Shakespearean tale of dirty deeds. The art is exemplary and unrestricted, the scripting from Thomas lyrical and efficient. This story is a little known episode in the comic books inspired by Howard's work and is well worth seeking out. A recent colourised version is available in the Savage sword collection edition but I would refer you to the original version which has a muted use of monochrome.
