MY HIT LIST: THE JEAN GENIE

 THE JEAN GENIE

Don’t call it Glam rock just call it bloody good music. The Jean Genie comes from David Bowie’s all conquering era and is a splendid single. It kicked of the Aladdin Sane album and is a huge slab of Americana influenced rock n roll. Around this time in his illustrious career Bowie managed to appeal to the Musos the Pop fans and the bloke on the street. No mean feat.

The lyrics are sleazy and surreptitious and the accompanying Music Video directed by Mick rock is appropriately slime ball and sexy.
Sweet, the UK self proclaimed glam rockers shamelessly ripped of the riff of Jean Genie in, what has to be said, was a gloriously kitsch hit single.

The Jean Genie reminds us that Bowie spent time as king of the world.
