MY HIT LIST: LOLA RENNT- RUN LOLA RUN

RUN LOLA RUN
Take an interesting yet simple idea, turn that idea into a lean and kinetic movie full of invention. Create an iconic heroine in the shape of flame haired Franka Potente and you have Run Lola Run. A superb film from German director Tom Twykwer. It's high concept; girl has 20 minutes to get 100,000 Duetschmarkes to her boyfriend. We see three different versions of events and glimpse lives changed by random moments. Animation, split screen and fluid camerawork punctuate this energised story.Lola loves her boyfriend Manii and this drives her breakneck race against time. The music used is of its time however it fits perfectly with the relentless pace of the movie. There are rare moments to catch ones breath and the movie has a heart as well as an underlying tension. Potenta used this film as a launch pad and she is far better than some of her subsequent roles demonstrate. Watching this film is watching a fresh and ebullient film maker taking a chance and delivering something that is different, layered and immense fun.
