MY HATE LIST: Cherry Tree Lane

cherry tree lane
From Paul Andrew Williams, the director of the excellent London to Brighton, Cherry Tree Lane is a pointless exercise in screen violence. It leaves the viewer with the taste of bile in their mouth and a feeling of utter depression. I don't know what type of message or conclusion is trying to be made but after watching it I felt that I needed to take a shower. It has none of the resonance of Haneke's Funny Games ; which is clearly William's template. As shown in his debut film Williams is a talented director, but this film manages to leave the viewer thinking; "what was the point?"
